UAE Declares Victory in Regional Conflict

(MENAFN) The United Arab Emirates declared itself a victor in the regional conflict on Wednesday, with a senior presidential adviser asserting the nation had withstood a war it never sought while emerging with its strategic standing strengthened.

Anwar Gargash, diplomatic adviser to the UAE president, said Wednesday the country "emerged victorious in a war we sincerely sought to avoid." Writing on U.S. social media platform X, Gargash described the outcome as the product of "an epic national defense … in the face of blatant aggression."

"Today, we move forward to manage a complex regional landscape with greater leverage, sharper insight, and a more solid capacity to influence and shape the future," Gargash added, signaling Abu Dhabi's intent to press its wartime position into lasting geopolitical influence.

The remarks followed U.S. President Donald Trump's announcement Tuesday that he had agreed "to suspend the bombing and attack of Iran for a period of two weeks" — a deal reached less than two hours before Trump's own deadline for Tehran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz or face what he warned would be the destruction of "an entire civilization."

The ceasefire brings a temporary halt to a conflict that has exacted a severe human toll. Hostilities erupted on Feb. 28, when the U.S. and Israel launched a joint offensive against Iran, a campaign that has since killed more than 1,400 people — among them then-Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Iran responded with extensive drone and missile strikes directed at Israel, as well as at Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf states hosting U.S. military installations. Tehran also moved to choke maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, amplifying global energy market anxiety before the ceasefire announcement offered temporary relief.
