Syria, UAE Discuss Security Cooperation, Economic Expansion
Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa and UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan reviewed current regional challenges and explored opportunities to expand bilateral economic ties and support development initiatives, as reported by the Syrian presidency.
Both sides also emphasized the importance of coordination to help maintain stability across the region.
In the discussions, al-Sharaa expressed Syria’s solidarity with the United Arab Emirates and rejected any actions he said could threaten its sovereignty and security, referring to what he described as recent Iranian attacks, according to the statement.
The UAE’s state news agency WAM reported that the two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening relations in ways that support long-term economic growth and development for both countries.
The meeting in Abu Dhabi is part of a wider regional tour by the Syrian president, which included visits to Saudi Arabia and Qatar.
In Doha, he met with Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to discuss bilateral relations and regional developments, while in Saudi Arabia he held talks with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman focused on expanding economic cooperation and regional infrastructure connectivity.
